How to recognize our plants

Naturally, you can recognise our plants from their external features.

Sturdy straight stems
The stem of the standard crowns, in spite of the lenght or age of the plant, is always thick, sturdy and straight.

Dense branches
This way they are always densely branched. This is a direct result of regular pruning by hand with pruning shears. This old-fashioned craftsmanship, or rather ‘the art of pruning', is reflected in many other ways in the plant’s quality. To achieve the ideal form, much consideration goes into pruning every branch. The position of the buds is evaluated. Pruning an outside bud creates a different form than pruning an inside bud. Furthermore, the symmetry, orientation and vitality of the plant are evaluated. On this basis, the plant is pruned twice a year, every year. Sometimes for fifteen years or more!

No hedge trimmer or machine
The form of a laurel defines to a large degree its final quality. The form is established by good, skilled pruning. Of course, a form can be created using a hedge trimmer, but the difference in quality between this and skilled pruning by hand with pruning shears is generally very obvious.

Large pot
Apart from dense branches, our plants can also always be distinguished by their very spacious pots; pots in which the plant feels comfortable. This has many advantages. The laurel can be enjoyed trouble-free for much longer. Moreover, the plant has a greater store of water and nutrition while in transit. This ensures that the plant retains its beautiful appearance.

Label
Tree Trunk Topiary hangs a label on all its shaped plants. This label communicates our mission; modern old-fashioned cultivation. On the back, the customer will find all the information necessary to take good care of their purchase. On the front, the cultivator indicates the year the plant cutting was struck. In this way, the customer knows exactly the (often underestimated) age of their plant.
