Nursery
In 1991, Christoph de Cock started cultivating laurels in his father’s
greenhouse. In 1993, the laurel plants moved to the current location on the
Kruiskenstraat in Sint-Laureins in Flanders, Belgium. At that time, woodland
and hedge planting complimented the range besides laurels. Laurel production
then amounted mainly to cuttings and young plants. Over the years, more and
more heavy shaped-plants have been added. Due to this extreme specialisation,
woodland and hedge planting cultivation has disappeared completely from the
company’s range.
Sint-Laureins lies close to the coast, which affords the plants a favourable and mild maritime climate. Sint-Laureins is also situated close to Bruges, the home for many a year of laurel cultivation in many unusual forms.
The company has now expanded at its current location to 8 hectares net cultivation
area. A greenhouse takes up 1.5 ha of this.
Tree Trunk Topiary’s parcel of land is ideal for laurel cultivation.
The greenhouse is situated right in the middle of the elongated plot. Thanks
to a special structure, the plants can easily be moved outdoors or indoors
in the spring and autumn. This makes optimum use of available space.
Greenhouse space was doubled in both 2003 and 2005. The means that we utilise
the latest greenhouse technology. Rainwater is collected and used to water
the plants.
The combination of the shape of the plot, the modern greenhouse system and
continuous access to sufficient high quality water all enable us to work
very efficiently. Moreover, we pay a great deal of attention to working conditions,
so we don’t only work efficiently, but also healthily!
